As a celebrity luxury boutique owner, what inspired you to open the store?
When I first moved to Dubai, I fell in love with its lifestyle, beautiful scenery, and how innovative the city is. My concept store is a one-stop shop inclusive of resort wear collections, work wear, active wear, lounge wear and even evening wear. We provide women with all that they need.
What was your first job? What were you doing before you opened the store? How did you transition from your first job to being an owner of a posh boutique?
My first job was in a cyber security IT company back in Indonesia. I found myself always designing, at the same time I had fashion boutique in Bali.
What are the challenges you face while operating a boutique?
I most definitely had so many challenges especially when my grand opening is was January this year followed by a lockdown. It was devastating for everyone including myself. However, I can’t be more proud as we have the best brands out there from ERES to Alexandre Vauthier.
What sets Tutus Kurniati apart from your competitors?
My concept store is focused on resort wear which sets us apart from any other boutique in the GCC and even around the world.
How has your boutique grown upon its opening date? What’s your vision for the future?
Regardless of the situation that we are currently in, I remain positive and confident that this pandemic will be over soon. I will begin designing my own brand and open another store in other coastal cities such as LA and Sydney.
Walk us through a day in the life of Tutus Kurniati.
I start by preparing my son for school, I take my vitamins and work out. Then I go to the office, attend meetings, then I’m back home to take care of my son and have a family dinner before bed time.
What is your personal style?
It’s modern, chic and feminine.
You are now online as well, do you think people like to shop in person or are they more inclined to do online shopping at Tutus?
During lockdown sales were all online, but now we’re finding that clients would rather visit the boutique and try on our outfits in person.
What types of marketing and promotions have been most successful, how do you promote your brand?
Most of Tutus promotions are through word of mouth by satisfied and repeat. In addition, influencers play a role in our marketing strategy.
